The Centre of International and European Economic Law (CIEEL) is a research institute dealing withEU law, human rights and international economic and business law. It operates in
Thessaloniki, Greece since 1978 as a public legal entity of private law, under the supervision of the
Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Development. It specialises in public procurement and state aids
via two Units that provide legal expertise and consultative support to Greek public authorities on the
correct application of EU law in these two fields, the Public Procurement Monitoring Unit, operating
since 1997, and the State Aid Unit, in operation since 2002.
Its publishing activity consists of the edition of two legal reviews, the “Hellenic Review of European
Law” and the “Public Procurement & State Aid Law Review”, as well as other special editions on EU law.
CIEEL aims mainly to promote academic research and to provide advisory support to public authorities. Furthermore, since 1978 CIEEL is a national documentation centre as well as a 'European Documentation Centre' (Centre Documentation Européenne) according to a specific decision of the European Commission.
